Working Methods  [deutsch]

My vessels are formed by traditional hand-building techniques such as coiling, cutting tiles from rolled out clay slabs, pressing in plaster molds and throwing on the electric wheel. To create my objects I combine these techniques within a single work. Additionally, experimenting with the elasticity of partially dried clay leads to an eruption-like surface structure, reminiscent of tree bark. Initially, I make a cylinder from partially dried clay tiles that I then place in a round shaped plaster mold. Through careful pressing the clay is stretched into the half-sphere, round-like mold, which enhances the ’tree bark’ surface structure. Lastly, I place a large coil on the top of the clay form, while still in the mold, and turn it on the electric wheel. This produces a smooth collar-like structure to finish off the piece.
